Hand Brake Turn students headed down to Sandown Raceway on 14 September to see the Virgin Australia SuperCars Championship. The Hand Brake Turn team got to watch the practice rounds of Toyota 86 Racing Series, ECB SuperUtes Series, and Supercars Championship. The students also enjoyed watching stunt cars and bikes doing tricks and burnouts, exploring the pits to see what happens in their workshops, along with seeing the trailers and buses were crew reside. They also got to see classic and vintage car displays, VR car racing, Australian Army displays and munch on lunch from the food trucks.
This sport has become globally recognised as the best touring car category in the world and leader in motorsport entertainment. This was a great opportunity for the students to engage in watching car racing as an opportunity to see something they do not usually get a chance to see and to consider whether this might be a possible pathway for employment if this is a passion for them. This was the case of Justin Bowen, former Hand Brake Turn Student who graduated in 2007, and has excelled in his driving career with Justin Bowen Racing in his Victorian Formula 500 racecar team.
Huge thanks to Students on Track who sponsored our students and staff to participate in this event.
