Volunteering is a great way to donate skills and time and be part of a supportive community, creating positive futures for young people.

We have lots of different volunteer opportunities available including workshop support, mentoring, collecting cars and ‘back of house’ roles.

Please note that all volunteers are subject to police and WWCC checks and must be prepared to undertake Child Safe training.

We are currently seeking volunteers for these programs:

Exciting opportunities are now available to become a live-in mentor to young people as part of our Enhanced Lead Tenant program, which provides accommodation, and support services to young people who are on statutory orders (child protection and/or youth justice). The young people are aged between 16 – 19 years and are usually exiting residential services.

Lead Tenant – Live in Mentor (Voluntary)

CONCERN AUSTRALIA

  • Are you someone who wants to make a difference in a young person’s life?
  • We are seeking enthusiastic candidates for our Lead Tenant Houses currently available in Carlton, Epping, Coburg, St Albans and more.

As a Lead Tenant – Live-In Mentor in our Inside Out program you will reside in a property alongside another Mentor/Lead Tenant and one to two young people.

You will have the privilege of giving back to your community and being a positive role model to these young people. You’ll be expected to share basic living skills such as cooking, budgeting and house maintenance, whilst maintaining the freedom to engage in your own work or study.

The young people participating in this program are aged between 16-19 years and are seeking to transition into independent living after exiting residential care. The Lead Tenant program seeks to empower young people experiencing disadvantage by giving them the tools and training to continue to lead healthy, independent and fulfilling lives.

IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ROLE, YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO MEET OUR MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDING:

  • An ability to live in a share house setting
  • Willingness to interact with co-residents
  • Be eligible for a Working with Children Check
  • Undergo a National & International Police Check
  • Engaged in work or study
  • Willingness to actively participate and undertake Live-In Mentor training

Exciting opportunities are now available to become a mentor to young people as part of our Hand Brake Turn team. You will work alongside young people, equipping them with life skills that promote independence.

We are seeking someone with knowledge of the education and/or employment sectors including LLENs, Learn Local Providers, RTOs and TAFE, knowledge of the Youth Justice system and Child Protection out-of-home care systems, and/or experience in support and case management of adolescents.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager – Business Operations, the fiXit Volunteer Truck Driver will assist in picking up and dropping off donated cars between the Sunshine-based workshop and donor locations across Melbourne. If the successful applicant does not have a truck-driving licence but is willing to learn a new skill to give back to the community or build future career opportunities, fiXit will cover the cost of attending a course and applying for the heavy vehicle licence.

What you will need to succeed

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience and basic knowledge of fixing motor vehicles.
  • Desired, but not essential: Heavy Vehicle Driver’s Licence and experience in volunteering or working in a related field.

About the role

Placements within the Hand Brake Turn program will have the opportunity to gain experience in working with young people aged 14-25 in both classroom and workshop settings.

The successful student will be involved in creating and running workshops for a group of up to 15 young people, mentoring young people to empower them with education and employment skills, and some basic administration tasks. Placement will also require participation in program promotion.

The program is located at both our Sunshine West and Dandenong, but placements will be based at one of the two locations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Hand Brake Turn Administration Officer is an exciting new role created to support the program, team and young people with a people-centred approach. Responsibilities include building positive relationships with key program partners and supporting the development and improvement of administrative processes. This front-of-house role will play a part in imparting hope by creating a friendly, warm, and safe environment for young people participating in Hand Brake Turn. The Administration Officer will also play a crucial role in maintaining and ensuring data integrity, and handling funds associated with various aspects of the program.

This role is a Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Industry Award Level 3, 12-month fixed term contract with the potential to extend contingent on continued funding.

 WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Completion of Diploma or equivalent in a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working within an office environment or front of house reception.
  • Strong administration skills, including experience in administration of and compliance with ACFE funding.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Have a balance between being well organised and being able to flex for competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to adapt styles according to the audience.
  • Highly developed interpersonal rapport and relationship building.
  • Knowledge and empathy on how to work with all young people and their families utilising a strengths-based approach.
  • Excellent presentation skills, including an ability to facilitate group discussions and activities.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including the frequent use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and database entry.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are calling for an enthusiastic and experienced youth worker to empower young people in our Inside Out program transition to independent living.

A casual Youth Worker provides trauma-informed care and support to young people, including completing daily activities such as self-care and life and living skills in a lead tenant and independent living setting. The Youth Worker demonstrates positive role-modelling and promotes independence.

The role also requires some administrative such as case noting, report and incident report writing, and providing transport to and from appointments when and if required.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

The successful applicant for this position will be able to demonstrate:

Essential:

  • Commitment and personal desire to adhere to Concern Australia’s Mission, Vision, Values and Goals and to work in team environment,
  • Tertiary qualifications in either social work, youth work, social sciences or related field,
  • Relevant experience in a similar role, including experience in working with all levels of management and external stakeholders,
  • Demonstrated experience in being an efficient problem solver and a well-organised coordinator,
  • Knowledge of the Youth Justice system and Child Protection out of home care systems,
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications,
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License,
  • Satisfactory National Police Check, International Police Check (International Police check if applicable) and Worker and Carer Exclusion Scheme clearance,
  • Valid Working with Children Check or relevant Victorian Teaching Registration

Desirable:

  • First Aid Certificate

Ability to work after hours, including night and weekend shifts is essential for this role.

This position is classified and paid in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 MA000100, Level 3.1 casual rates plus super.
