WHAT IS fiXit

Creating positive change for young people through employment.

Creating pathways to employment for young people.

fiXit is an innovative automotive social enterprise established by Concern Australia in 2021 to create positive change for young people and their families.

fiXit generates income through receiving donated cars from the community and repurposing them. This may be through realising the value of the donation or use as a training vehicle.

In its first four years, fiXit has provided entry-level employment to over 35 Hand Brake Turn graduates. You can find out more at the fiXit website

pathways to sustainable employment

An opportunity to gain practical workplace experience and skills.

fiXit was created to provide employment and skills development opportunities to young people who have disengaged from education and training, and who are at-risk of long-term unemployment.

Working alongside our fiXit team, including our trainers and expert mechanics, young people gain practical workplace experience and skills.

WHY fiXit?

Working to create a sustainable future.

Repurposing donated cars can have many benefits. Collecting vehicles provides training for young people in transport, logistics, customer service and mechanical skills. Where possible, cars are sold as affordable vehicles to young people and families, with the proceeds supporting fiXit wages. Others are used as training vehicles, and parts of cars are reused. Ultimately, this reduces waste and the need to extract new resources, reducing the environmental impact.

Promoting gender equality and diversity.

fiXit actively combats gender imbalances in the automotive sector through championing the inclusion of young women and others.

Supporting First Nations communities.

Mechanics working as part of our fiXit program support our partnership with the Warlpiri Community in the Northern Territory, strengthening Indigenous skills and training.

Stories that matter – donation

Fifteen years with Cruzito.

Placeholder

As a young professional, Leah worked hard to achieve a milestone:
a brand-new car!

A Holden Cruze, complete with a sunroof and heated seats. Commutes never felt better. She named it Cruzito, and for the next 15 years, it became more than just transport, it was a dependable companion through every phase of life.

From the early days of climbing the career ladder to late-night drives and family road trips, Cruzito was always there. It even took her to the hospital when she became a mother! Reliable and familiar, it carried memories in every kilometre.

But now, with a new chapter unfolding and remote work replacing the daily commute, Cruzito finds itself in a quieter role. Though it may no longer be essential for Monday mornings, its story isn't over just yet. In the hands of fiXit, this well-loved Holden will help shape the next generation of skilled hands and fresh starts.
