Partnership with the Warlpiri Community and the Central Desert Land Council in Yuendumu, NT

Concern Australia has been working in partnership with the Warlpiri Community in Yuendumu to deliver the Hand Brake Turn course.

Yuendumu is situated on the edge of the Tanami Desert, north-west of Alice Springs, and home to around 800 people.

As Yuendumu is around 300km in any direction from the nearest town the consequences of cars breaking down are so serious that it is important that young people learn automotive skills from an early age. Sean Wilson, a proud Warlpiri man and Community Development Program Manager, has partnered with Concern Australia so that the course can be delivered over a three week period by one of Concern's trainer mechanics.

Delivered flexibly, HBT aims to strengthen and expand Yuendumu participants' existing automotive skills and knowledge. It also presents a valuable opportunity for Concern Australia trainers to bring ideas and learning back to Melbourne to feed into the continuous improvement of our programs.
