Our teams keep adapting to support vulnerable young people during the pandemic.

We recently introduced the Car Mechanic Simulator game for Hand Brake Turn students that they will use every Wednesday to continue their practical learning away from the workshop.

Check out the video, turn up your speakers and start grooving!

Our trainers join the students online and repair and service cars in a virtual environment that builds their knowledge, skills and enthusiasm from the safety of their home – and it’s fun! Who says you can’t learn how to repair a car while in lockdown!?!?

Many of our Hand Brake Turn students need the tailored, one-on-one attention and support provided by workshop classes with our trainers, and lockdowns have also highlighted the literacy and numeracy challenges that many face.

This means that standard approaches to online learning, such as independent reading and writing based tasks, don’t meet their needs.

Car Mechanic Simulator is a wonderful innovation that helps overcome these challenges and keeps Hand Brake Turn students connected and engaged, helping to pave the way to a brighter future.
