Would you hand me a spanner?

Spanners, socket sets, and wrenches are all common place an automotive workshop and thanks to the in-kind support from one of Australia’s leading tool manufacturers are familiar to all Hand Brake Turn program sites.

Managing Director of Stanley Black & Decker Australia, Mike Kirkman, took some time to share with us the reason for his company’s in kind support for the Hand Brake Turn program.

Why does Stanley Black & Decker support the Hand Brake Turn program?

There are two main reasons for our involvement with Hand Brake Turn.  Firstly, HBT is directly related to the Automotive industry with a clear link to our brand and product offering. Secondly, there is no doubt in our mind that the programs make a difference in the lives of young people and our staff have witnessed this first hand over the years as mentors to the participants.

Mike Kirkman with HBT winnerWhat in-kind support does Stanley Black & Decker offer the Hand Brake Turn program?

We initially provided a set of Sidchrome tools as an Award for participants with excellent attitude. From there it spread and we decided to provide tools not only as an incentive to individual participants, but to fit out each location with the required workshop tools.

What are the benefits of supporting the Hand Brake Turn program?

The HBT programs provide a direct link with present and potential end users of our products. So from a commercial point of view our participation is both relevant and meaningful. However, our support also shows our employees that we are serious when we say we want to engage in a structured way with the community we operate in.  We feel it is important that our employees feel they are part of an organisation that is aware of community needs and participates in solutions for the communities where we operate.
