I see dumb people

"Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean, I'd love to be skinny like that but not with all those flies and death and stuff." - Mariah Carey
"We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees!" - Jason Kidd
"I'm not going to have some reporters pawing through our papers! We are the President!" - Hillary Clinton

Ouch baby Flower 3

Who could forget the famous words of Austin Powers as his manhood and mojo is questioned. He's not the only one in the world to be challenged, and sometimes it can really "ouch baby". Girls, boys, friends, parents, all of our relationships can go through rough patches... but remember, even Austin Powers hurts... yeah baby!Flower 4

What to do about kids taking guns to school

By Tom Scanlan

I was shocked to find out that a high school student was caught recently with a gun at school. It is a terrible thing that teenagers are carrying guns to school and I believe special action must take place immediately if we are to ensure the safety of the youth of this country and those around them.

There are several things we must all realize; and then there are certain direct actions we must take to solve the crisis.

First, realize that kids are going to tote guns to school. Next realize that there is nothing we can do to stop them. Also realize that they probably have always carried weapons to class but it is only now being acknowledged. Lastly, understand that we must not make these kids feel they are doing anything wrong. Ouch! Nothing could be more detrimental to a teenager’s development than guilt.

Now what to do? We must educate! Get an organisation to come on campus and teach weapon knowledge and appreciation skills. Perhaps a non-profit group with a name like ‘Planned marksmanhood’ could teach these impressionable adolescents all about firearms, and in a ‘values neutral’ atmosphere enlighten them regarding clubs, mace, whips, knives, spears, swords, cannons, bombs, grenades and missiles. (Kids have the right to know.)

Until this educational blitz is enacted and operating properly, it is of paramount importance that we protect society from incidental mishaps that sometimes happen with those who exercise their right of artillery choice. The solution: We must, without delay, start passing out rubber bullets! That’s right, ‘Safe blast’. It’s the only thing a truly caring society can do.

A word of caution however. Parents must be left out of this concern. So many of the parents of high school teens came of age in the sixties and proclaim to be pacifists. These parents (Neanderthals) do not understand the freedom this generation has from old-fashioned ideas that may have once been fitting for an earlier time. They must not be allowed to impose or legislate their morality on anyone else. If they don’t want their kids to be around guns they don’t have to send them to school.

Now, for those who are still trying to catch up, this article is not about guns or weapons at all, it’s about SEX!

What scares us most about a lot of the ‘pop-culture’ media is two big things a) it assumes the worst of YOU, the teenager and 2) treats YOU like you’re a monkey! I mean seriously, how insulting can it be.

They assume ‘you lot’ are hormone possessed, psycho-sex machines that bonk like rabbits! Now I can hear a whole bunch of year 9 and 10 boys, grabbing their ‘package’ and going ‘yeeehhh! That’s right, wooohoooo!” But most of that is just like dogs chasing cars, if ya caught one, you wouldn’t really know what to do with it. Macho crap aside, there is not a whole bunch in life that can ‘mess ya head up’ quite like indiscriminate sex, and most people actually know that without having to try it. They see the ‘soap opera’ merry-go-round of heart break romances and know the carnage on the heart is unbelievable. When we give our bodies into that mix a transaction takes place in our lives that can’t be easily undone by just ‘walkin away’. It hurts, and it damages us at the very core of our being.

For girls it can be particularly painful … for guys, the damage may not be (in most instances) as high on the emotions and soul, but in our experience, the casualty is in their ability to COMMIT to a long-term relationship, as defined in marriage i.e. one man for one woman, until death do us part.

Abstinence is not only an option, but I can say without fear of contradiction, it is the smartest choice you can make. God created us for true intimacy and put some protective guidelines on that to maximise, not minimise, the pleasure. When we step outside of those boundaries, we start messing with the plan, and well … you know! As a youth worker and counselor I have seen soooo many people over the years telling the same story, and wishing, oh wishing they could rewind the clock.

Make sure you have all the information you need. Make sure this thing isn’t just about ‘urges’ and meeting YOUR needs, coz if it is then without a doubt people, precious, unique and vulnerable people are going to get really hurt… OUCH BABY!
