Testimonials

David was referred to HBT from Centrelink after leaving school at the end of year 9. In a survey conducted after the course his parents noted: "David is more grown up since completing the course" and his parents are happy with his level of maturity and respect he now has, which was an issue previously, and with noticeable improvements in behaviour, confidence, and motivation.

Matthew is 16 and was referred to the program through his local Youth Information centre. His mum (Sarah) said "for the first time in a long time, Matthew felt that he was one of the best in the class, because he was doing something that he loved." Sarah noted that after the course, "he became more self confident" and told him to "keep up the amazing work that you are doing there!" She also noted improvements in his general outlook on life, confidence, motivation, taking responsibility, and setting of goals.

Adam was a 16 year old referred to us from Centrelink. His mum said that "Adam is now keen to get up, and he has a purpose." His parents have noted differences in his attitude to others, behaviour, confidence, outlook on life, taking responsibility, refocus on training or education, and motivation. One of our trainees, Don, said "I liked cars but hadn’t done any work on them. HBT gave me an understanding of how things worked – but it wasn’t until I started Spray Painting that I became excited and motivated to work in the automotive industry. HBT gave me the basic skills and confidence to get an apprenticeship."

Contact us

We always welcome young people who are interested in learning more about participating in the Concern Australia - Hand Brake Turn program. Parents, members of the community, government and industry representatives can also contact us for more information or arrange a visit to our centre.

We look forward to hearing from people interested in supporting our small team of Christian people who are working for improved outcomes for our disadvantaged youth, providing a Christian witness to young people and other professionals.

Any offers of voluntary help in support of the trainers in the HBT Dandenong program in motor mechanics, panel beating or spray painting, for assisting in restoring motor vehicles or for administrative tasks, building/facility improvements (eg painting or carpentry) would be greatly appreciated. For further details, please contact the HBT Dandenong Manager - 03 9793 1466

Please note, that in serving the best interests of our young people, both a Federal Police check and a 'Working With Children' Check is required of all volunteers.
