Foundations
A variety of people make up the network of Concern Australia and its associated ministries that include God’s Squad Christian Motorcycle Club and the St. Martin’s communities of faith.
Concern Australia is both an evangelical movement and a gathering of Christians, whose roots are in a wide denominational base, including the Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox confessions. As a part of the wider Christian church, we have a great desire to learn from the richness of the experience and perspectives of others, so that we can truly and relevantly honour Christ and those whom we seek to serve, identify with and reach out to.
Concern Australia is a Christian movement founded by Rev Dr Kevin John Smith, whose mission, by proclamation and practice, is to establish models which promote God’s kingdom of reconciliation, peace and hope.
We believe that a vital life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit is the only basis for a fulfilled and meaningful life.
We have drawn from the great confessional statements of the historic church (as defined in the Apostles and Nicene Creeds) as well as more recent covenants (such as those of the Lausanne 1974 World Congress) to develop a biblical understanding of who God calls us to be.
A study of the Scriptures, and in particular verses such as Micah 6:8, Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 4:18-19, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 and 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 have led us to establish models which promote God’s Kingdom of reconciliation, peace and hope, by:
- justice, righteousness and advocacy
- merciful love
- spirituality
through the teachings, example, spirit and power of Jesus Christ.
